AWFUL! ... Breaks Backup & Sync!

Im really angry. I bought both the Spanish and French versions of this app and it has caused me HORRIBLE PROBLEMS! Downloading the audio for this app effectively breaks backup & synching for the iPhone. I dont know exactly what the problem is, but deleting both apps finally fixed it, after costing me hours of time and headaches. Now I see from the companys web site that theyve known about it for a while but didnt warn people. Its abundantly clear that they didnt test this properly before releasing it. Wheres the quality control? This is completely unacceptable!

Very Helpful Update

I have been an AccelaStudy user since last September - the Japanese product - and just bought the Spanish app. The new "spaced repetition" feature - I think it is called the Leitner Method in literature Ive read - is extremely useful and is now the best feature of the product. I did experience a slow backup after downloading but contacted support and they explained it. All good now. Ive contacted support via email several times since September, mostly for minor questions and to push them for more vocabulary :-), and theyve always been very responsive and helpful, which is more than I can say about a lot of apps I have. Im already a repeat customer so that should say it all there. I look forward to what they have in store next and as soon as they add either verbs or other vocabulary, Ill give it 5 stars.

What a Mess.....

The app is a total mess. It messes up calendar usage because it prevents you from syncing up. Same with todo lists. Backup just freezes up and theres nothing you can do until you delete this app and recycle. Ill never install an app from this company again.

Excellent learning tool

I needed an iPhone app to supplement my Spanish lessons, and this one seemed to be the most well reviewed. It has proven to be both easy to use and an effective learning tool, particularly the Spaced Repetition feature (I think its based on the "Leitner Method"). Although I withhold the fifth star because it lacks verbs and lacks the ability to add your own words, apparently the former is being added in the next release and the latter is planned for a later release. Incidentally, I emailed the company requesting these features and received a personal response in literally less than five minutes. Impressive.

Add verbs, then it gets 5 stars

Its very versatile, has a reasonably large vocabulary set to study, and the study tools are diverse enough to meet your needs. Flashcards are good, but spaced repetition is awesome. Audio is good too, but it needs verb conjugations! Add that and its a five star app.

Great application - use often

Im a big fan of this app. The learning tools are very helpful and the audio pronunciation helps me with some of the more complicted words. Worth every penny.

AccelaStudy Spanish-English

Exceptional program, well constructed and easy to use. I highly reccommend it for anyone interested in learning Spanish. Would like to see conversational phrases quizes where one has to fill in the blanks/s and maybe some graphics. Looking forward to updates that extend the word base.

Geat flashcard app

Clear crisp audio and smooth flashcards. More verbs and more verb tenses please!

Spaced Rep is Great

Ive now used this a lot and am running out of words. Please add more words!! The spaced repetition is great and it has been very helpful in learning. Its really the best way I know to learn vocabulary. The word sets are difficult to make and change. It seems like it shouldnt be too difficult to improve that. Please develop an app with spaced repition verb conjugations. I need it. Thanks

Please add ability to add own words.

There are a lot of words that are missing. Add them or give the ability to add until you can add them!

Almost perfect

I love this app. The spaced repetition makes the app. Theres a few too many "financial" words. Could use a few more general words. The English audio doesnt really make sence, the space would be better used for all Spanish audio. All in all, one of the best learning Spanish apps.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This app is by far the WORLDs GREATEST Spanish APP Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its so organized and helpes you keep track what spanish words and knowledge you know and have retained and what you need to work on. I believe as an app owner, in order to make this app even better, I think adding some pictures to the word the picture describe would make it a more AWOSOME APP! I also think we should be able to decide how fast the speaker pronounces the word and have the word broken down into syables and have the orgin(etymology) of the word (if spanish words have a orgin or etymology). I also think some IR, ER AR, and verbs to be (son somos, nostros, etc)verbs so be included. Other than that this app is really really awosome. Way to go guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good in some ways, but too one directional.

This is a very good flashcard program! It does the flashcards 3 different ways (written, audio, and multiple choice), to get to really the material. It has a good selection of words to learn, but does not put it all together gammatically in a learning fashion. The translator is pretty cool, and I suppose you could learn phrases that way, but there is no testing for phrases which would be nice. I think for the price, it should include some of that type of learning. All in all, what they do, they do well, but it is lacking in learning phrases.

Incredible

I dont leave reviews often; only if I feel that the subject is worth my time for writing the review. And this app is well worth it. Spaced Repetition is The best part- its like flashcards, but asks you if you got the word right at the end. If you get it wrong, then it asks you again a few words later. It makes large chunks of vocabulary remarkably easy to learn. Just 2 issues: dictionary only has 85% of the words I want to study, and theres no grammar testing. All in all, well worth the $9.99

WARNING - Marred by poor translations

Accelastudys flashcard engine is customizable and provides several learning methods. This could be a great learning tool for those who like the flashcard style of learning, except that the comprehensive vocabulary list they provide is marred by poor translations. The developers of this app obviously relied too much on machine translations. They needed a bilingual editor. In some cases, their translations are outright wrong, and in others, they get the wrong definition or meaning of a word that has several meanings in English. Other word choices are stilted, and do not really reflect the everyday speech of the Spanish speaking world. Here are some examples of bad translations: 1. Sweatshirt. Their translation: "el buzo". What that means: "the diver". What they really meant to say? "la sudadera" or "la camisa de entrenamiento". 2. Demonstration (business words section). Their translation: "la manifestación". What that means: "the protest [demonstration]". What they really meant to say (since this was the business words section): "la demostración" as in a product demonstration. 3. Spine (anatomical words section). Their translation: "la espina". What that means: "the thorn". What they really meant to say: "la espina dorsal". In medical terminology, "columna" forms many compounds in Spanish: columna lumbar, la cirugía de columna, las vértebras de la columna. 4. Simple (adjective). Their translation: "simple". Whats wrong with that? The way you say simple in everyday Spanish is "sencillo/sencilla" and "simple" is much less commonly used. It has a more limited meaning in Spanish ... without complications. 5. Balance (banking words section). Their translation: "el equilibrio". What that means: "the equilibrium". What they really meant to say: "el saldo". 6. Denim. Their translation: "la teel de jean". What that means: NOTHING. What they really meant to say: "la tela vaquera". 7. Suede. Their translation: "la seda". What that means: "the silk". What they meant to say: "el ante". 8. Purple (colors section). Their translation: "púrpura". This sounds affected in ordinary speech. In the Spanish vernacular, you say "morado". (Púrpura is used more in translations, like "El Color Púrpura" (Spielberg movie) and "Lluvia Púrpura" (the album/song by Prince). 9. Silly (adjective). Their translation: "estupido/estupida". Better translation: "tonto/tonta". 10. Sleepy. Their translation: "somnoliento/somnolienta". This does indeed mean "sleepy" but at a very high usage level. The everyday way to say you are sleepy is "tengo sueños" or "estoy cansado" (I am tired). This company has produced a huge suite of language flashcard products. It makes you wonder how good their German/Spanish or Dutch/Spanish or French/Spanish products are when they cant even get English/Spanish right!

Disappointed

I bought this app and was happy with it until they removed the built in google language translator. That was one of my favorite features that made this app better than its competitors. Now with the latest version, that feature is gone. I dont want to use an entirely separate app to do translations. Without that built in google translator I would not have bought this app, nor would I recommend it to my friends. I really hope Acellastudy brings that feature back.

Lost features

As of the new update, the translator had been removed. It was the reason I used the program. Now its gone. What the *ell? Why remove such a great aspect of the program? What a joke!

Not worth the price...anymore!!!

I paid 10$ for this app, and liked it, but now half of its utility is gone as they secretly removed the Internet search translation capability. Terrible move guys. The words database on this app is very very limited. I can hardly ever type in a word now and get a result. I had even bought their Portuguese and Korean versions. Feels like I was just bent over. I want my money back.

Awesome way to learn!

Spaced repetition works great! Also, the new audio advance feature is awesome for learning words while driving to work.

No more translator?

This is a good study app, but a waste of $$$ without the awesome translator that it used to have. I wont be upgrading any more free versions. I have 9 of them. Removal of the translator was a bad idea.
